FRI 15 DEC

A very mild evening for Dec-10c, light breeze but also some u expected rain. 2 traps on - 17.15- 22.15 , 6moths of 4 species , 1

could be the moth of the year!

1 Chestnut

1Depressaria daucella

1 Clepsis consimilana

2 Rusty Dot Pearl

1 possible Marigold Shark

if confirmed this Shark would be a first for Devon and the 4th for the UK.

A number of photos follow, the moth has been retained as a specimen in case it needs dissection.

The moth was on a white sheet behind a bucket trap at 22.15 when I went to close the traps down

Update @ 16.00- Dave Grudy who traps in southern Spain has seen 25 Marigold Shark , he thinks it probably is a Marigold Shark,as this will only be the 4th record for the UK identity can only be confirmed

by dissection .
will be undertaken in the near future .

A really exciting end to a fantastic year of mothing

News received 10 Jan - after investigation it was confirmed as a Chamomile Shark- flight season is April- June , a very unusual record for December. Still a lifer for me -only 1 record for Devon in 2022
